We have received an increasing number of requests for information on planted rice varieties from national institutions, governemental and non-governmental organizations, development agencies, researchers, students, and interested individuals. Efforts, therefore, have been given to collect and collate information on rice planted at different locations around the world. We are grateful to the support provided by scientists of National Agricultural Research Systems and International Agricultural Research Centers. The collection and collation of information on planted rice varieties is still far from completed. However, at present the collection has more than 2,300 records on rice varieties which were developed and released for cultivation worldwide, most of them during the last 30 years. Each record has the following types of information is also provided for each variety, whenever applicable:
