AGPC promotes Conservation Agriculture (CA), a set of technologies based on permanent soil cover, minimum soil disturbance and crop rotation.
CA has numerous advantages, including
lower production costs, higher yields, reduced labour requirements, and diversification of crops and activities.
AGPC assists in adapting CA packages to specific farming situations. Its activities include:
Support to four regional CA networks, in Latin America, Africa, Eurasia and South Asia
Workshops in Russia, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tanzania, Venezuela and Italy
Development of databases on CA equipment and machinery and on cover crops
Implementation of short-term FAO-funded TCP projects in 11 countries
Implementation of a medium-term pilot project for CA in the humid savannahs of Burkina Faso
Support to World Bank study tours on zero-till agriculture in Brazil and CA in Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso
Joint activities with GTZ, CIRAD, CIMMYT and ECAF
AGPC is part of the FAO Conservation Agriculture Working Group, and
participated in the First World Congress on Conservation Agriculture (Madrid, 2001)
