ABOUT THE FACILITY - Role

The Global IPM Facility was established by FAO, UNDP, UNEP and the World Bank. It is based at FAO Headquarters in Rome and became fully operational in 1997.

The Global IPM Facility promotes Integrated Pest Management (IPM) through awareness raising and support to the development of field programs and policy reform.

More specifically, the Global IPM Facility:
Raises questions about unsustainable pest management practices and helps increase awareness of IPM alternatives.
Encourages and supports initiatives that develop IPM field programs and contributes to the further conceptual development of such programs.
Facilitates collaboration and exchange of information among IPM programs.
Stimulates dialogue to encourage policy reform.
Advises governments, international organizations, NGOs and donors on pest management programs and policies.

The Global IPM Facility technically supports IPM field programs in a large number of countries. This includes assistance in project or program design, fundraising and facilitation of collaboration among IPM programs. It has been a priority to link up individual countries in regional programs or other inter-country collaboration. The Facility helped establish, and technically supports, several regional IPM programs.
