AGRIBUSINESS DEVELOPMENT TARGETED TO SMALL AND MEDIUM POST-PRODUCTION ENTERPRISES

Objectives
To enhance the integration of production, packaging, transport and storage of marketable commodities and value-added products from the farm through to the consumer, and to support entrepreneurs in rural and peri-urban agribusiness development.

Outputs
Management tools and training packages for entrepreneurs in agribusiness; marketing guidelines for SMEs and training guidelines for bank staff in management of loan finance for SMEs; an interactive programme for agro-business management; training on the use of the INPhO decision support tools; regional directories of manufacturers of small-scale post-harvest equipment; awareness campaign on food safety issues during food processing and marketing. Appropriate technologies for post-harvest management. Expert consultation on strategies for introducing new technologies to the consumer; expert consultation on future directions for development of food biotechnology. Agribusiness linkages through directory of food packaging manufacturers and small-scale food equipment suppliers in sub-Sahara Africa; publication on distribution, storage and handling within producer/ networks; assessment of training requirements for contract negotiation and compliance. Post-production constraints analysis in selected countries in Latin America.
