This programme is to cover FAO's mandated responsibility to provide and disseminate to members reports,
information and data relevant to farm power and mechanisation, post-harvest technologies, farm resources and
production systems and banking services. On a global basis, for these technical areas no other organization
is involved in these activities. For the sustainable development of agriculture informed decisions have to
be taken. The information required for these decision processes reaches from information about technologies
and services, field data and statistical information to guidelines and standards on which policy decisions
can be taken. The improved information and guidelines shall contribute to improved development of the
agricultural sector. End beneficiaries are thus the farmers through improved technical information and policy
environment and the general public consumer through a more sustainable production of agricultural products and
better quality (food safety).
