PARAGUAY

The wheat research program carries on activities in wheat breeding, variety testing, plant protection (disease, pest and weed control) as well as crop management and rotations. This institution has released about 30 cultivars in cooperation with CIMMYT. Seed multiplication starts in CRIA with the production of foundation seed. At present, more than 50 % of the national wheat area is covered by local cultivars. Wheat farmers are using technology generated at CRIA (sowing time, fertilisation, disease control, etc.).
