Poultry excreta, regarded as a cheap source of energy, N, Ca and P for ruminants, were allowed to accumulate for from 4 to 28 days in the battery installation and were ensiled with 4 amounts of beet pulp and straw: 40/0, 35/5, 25/5 or 15/5; 0 or 10% beet molasses was added. Fermentation characteristics, except for lactic acid value, were impaired by increasing proportion of excreta in the mixture, but were improved significantly by molasses. The silages were well accepted, but 2 out of 5 sheep sometimes rejected silage containing 80% excreta and no molasses.
