Abstract 198Effect of maturity on the relative palatability of some tropical grasses.Asamoah,-L; Adjei,-MB Dep. Animal Sci., Univ. Ghana, Legon, Ghana. Legon-Agricultural-Research-Bulletin. 1985, 1, 19-26; 11 ref. An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of maturity on the relative palatability of Cynodon aethiopicus, C. nlemfuensis var. nlemfuensis, C. plectostachyus, Digitaria decumbens, Digitaria swazilandensis, Panicum maximum and Paspalum plicatulum, grazed in situ by cattle, 3-10 weeks after cutting. All the species were relished by cattle. P. maximum and D. decumbens were the most preferred. The least accepted grass species were C. aethiopicus and D. swazilandensis. Relative palatability generally decreased with maturity. Differences between relative palatability among species were closely related to DM yield, in vitro DM digestibility and CP and CF contents. This abstract relates to the following species:
