After a suspected outbreak of L. leucocephala poisoning in Ndama cattle, with loss of hair from the tail and preputial orifice, swelling of the face and hyperreactivity, 4 of 6 White Fulanis were fed solely on fresh shoots from this tree for 28 days. They developed excessive salivation after 5 days, loss of body weight after 8 days, and alopecia from 18 days. The alopecia progressed after withdrawal of the plant, and bare patches, with sores, developed all over the body. However, hair regrowth was visible by the fifth week after withdrawal.
