Sbornik-Vysoke-Skoly-Zemedelske-v-Praze,-FakultaAgronomicka -B. 1986, No. 44, 297-309; 27 ref. In the period of 2 years, the nutritional value of 6 grass species was studied by feeding wethers freely on them. Cynodon dactylon, C. nlemfuensis, Digitaria decumbens, Pennisetum purpureum X P. thyphoides, Panicum maximum and Cenchrus ciliaris, respectively, contained crude protein 12.7, 9.9, 9.0, 8.7, 6.9 and 5.9%; and crude fibre 29.4, 35.9, 30.8, 31.4, 35.3 and 33.2. Digestibility of crude protein was 72.6, 48.6, 59.0, 69.6, 53.0 and 41.0%; of crude fibre 64.4, 67.5, 65.6, 68.2, 55.5 and 59.0. C. dactylon, P. maximum and P. purpureum X P. typhoides were considered best suitable for production of green matter, whereas D. decumbens, C. nlemfluensis and C. ciliaris were best for grazing stands.
