Abstract 391Evaluation of mixtures of grasses and legumes with dairy cattle.Rodriguez-Femenia,-P; Menendez,-J Centro Politecnico "Villena-Revolucion", Havana, Cuba. Pastos-y-Forrajes. 1985, 8: 1, 33-43; 16 ref. In field trials in 1974-7 at Havana, (a) Digitaria decumbens/Neonotonia wightii, (b) Cynodon dactylon cv. Coastal/N. wightii, (c) D. decumbens/Macroptilium atropurpureum, (d) C. dactylon/M. atropurpureum, (e) Panicum maximum/N. wightii and (f) Brachiaria mutica/M. atropurpureum swards in 1-ha plots divided into 8 paddocks, were evaluated as pasture for dairy cattle. The stocking rate was 2 cows/ha and there were 35 and 45 resting days in the wet and dry seasons, resp. Av. available DM/rotation was approx. 3 t/ha in the wet season and 1.5-2 t/ha in the dry season. Legume percentage decreased from 18-55% in 1975 to 3-27% in 1976. CP concn. showed n.s.d. between treatments, although CP concn. tended to be higher with higher legume percentage. Daily milk yields ranged from 7-13 l/cow, but there were n.s.d. between treatments or seasons. This abstract relates to the following species:
