De-oiled niger (Guizotia abyssinica) cake was used to replace 0, 50, 75 or 100% of the protein provided by de-oiled groundnut cake in diets for pigs. Each of the 4 diets were given to 2 pens of 4 growing-finishing pigs for 9 weeks. Niger cake contained crude protein 37.3, nitrogen-free extract 30.6, crude fibre 17.9, ash 12.4 and ether extract 1.9%. Calcium was 0.9 and phosphorus 1.3%. Growth and efficiency tended to be reduced by increments of niger cake but the differences were not significant. Cost of feed per kg gain was marginally greater with the 2 higher concentrations of niger cake.
