Journal-of-Veterinary-Physiology-and-Allied-Sciences. 1983, 2: 1, 25-28; 10 ref. Attempts were made to extract the toxic, growth-depressant component in Azadirachta indica oilmeal by treatment with petroleum ether (40-60øC) or cold 95% alcohol, or boiling water, or successive treatments with alcohol and water. Rats were given diets which included 10% A. indica oilmeal, untreated or treated as above. From study of growth of the rats, it was concluded that a previously discovered, growth-depressant factor in the oilmeal is water soluble and can be removed more or less completely by extraction with water. This abstract relates to the following species:Azadirachta indica
