For 120 days of the dry season in Bolivia, 4 groups of 6 crossbred zebu X local taurine cattle, castrates 12 to 16 months old, grazed either Hyparrhenia rufa at stocking rate 1.1/ha or Brachiaria decumbens at 1.5/ha without or with access for 4 h daily to Leucaena leucocephala. There was no significant difference in bodyweight gain of cattle grazing the different grasses but those given leucaena gained significantly more than those on grass alone. Access to leucaena seemed to increase the intake of grass also. There was no sign of toxicity. This abstract relates to the following species:
