Effect of stocking rate on the production of beef cattle on Brachiaria decumbens pastures, with or without phosphate fertilizer.

In a field trial in 1980-1 for 2 wet and 1 dry season at Araua, stocking rates on a B. decumbens pasture (a) without P2O5 ranged from 0.5 to 2.0 animals/ha and (b) with 60 kg P2O5 at establishment and 30 kg P2O5/ha as an annual top dressing ranged from 1.0 to 1.5 animals/ha. During the trial period of 364 days, liveweight gains for (a) at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 animals/ha were 109, 207, 321 and 420 kg and for (b) at 1.0 and 1.5 animals/ha 234 and 337 kg/ha, resp.
