Zea mays was grown in rows 1 m apart at 6 plants/m of row alone or in mixture with 20 plants of soyabeans, Lablab purpureus or Crotalaria juncea, 16 plants of Cajanus cajan or 12 plants of Mucuna aterrima, harvested for silage and ensiled in 10-kg polyethylene bags. Mixtures with legumes increased crop CP content and CP yield/ha. All legumes except L. purpureus and M. aterrima increased DM production. This abstract relates to the following species:
