Documentos--Centro-dePesquisa-Agropecuaria-do-Tropico-Semi Arido,-EMBRAPA. 1988, No. 56, 15 pp.; 2 ref. In a trial in 1981-85, performance was compared in 5 grasses under grazing. Av. liveweight gains/season ranged from 68 kg from an av. period of 218 days with Rhynchelytrum repens to 199 kg from 333 days with Panicum maximum but the differences in gain were not significant. Stands of Cenchrus setigerus and C. ciliaris cv. Biloela remained 100% grass throughout the 4 years of the trial while Urochloa mosambicensis was 100% grass in most years. The R. repens stand was rapidly invaded by weeds so that little grass remained in the 4th season, while P. maximum was invaded less rapidly, with 55% grass remaining in the 4th season.
