A small genus of some 10 species all distributed in S. America. See Arachis hypogaea (cultivated groundnut). Wild species are mostly perennials, some of them are grazed in their natural habitats or used as forage plants. A. glabrata is best known and showed good performance in trials in Florida. It is an aggressive plant and can suppress companion grasses when grown in mixtures but produced increased yield over grass alone.
