Pigs 4 to 6 months old were fed for a prolonged period on a diet containing [cottonseed] oilmeal 20%, increasing to 30-40%. The gossypol-containing meal, compared with a control diet, decreased the rate of body weight gain and disturbed digestion and adversely affected clinical condition of the pigs by sharply decreasing immunobiological reactivity and destroying the immunity in vaccinated pigs.
