Detoxification of commercially produced cottonseed meal.

Free gossypol in cottonseed meal was reduced to 0.045% by keeping it in boiling water for 15 min. Biological evaluation of the water-treated meal indicated no adverse effect on its net protein utilization and protein efficiency ratio. These values were comparable to values for chemically treated meals and better than those for the meal detoxified with solvents.
