For 120 days 4 groups of crossbred steers initially weighing 192 kg were given diets based on molasses/urea at 2.5% and Taiwan pasture (Pennisetum purpureum X P. americanum) at 3% of liveweight with blood meal:banana meal 0.50:0, 0.375:0.250, 0.250:0.5 or 0.125:0.75 kg each daily. Daily weight gain for the 4 groups, respectively, was 232, 208, 262 and 232 g and total daily DM intake was 4.071, 3.549, 4.118 and 4.091 kg. This abstract relates to the following species:
