Use of silage made from pineapple canning wastes in the fattening of lambs and calves.

Three groups of 15 lambs, liveweight 18.5 kg, were given (1) green forage at 2% of liveweight and a basal diet only, (2) 1.2 kg soyabean oilmeal to 25 kg liveweight then 0.7 kg to slaughter and ensiled pineapple byproducts to appetite, or (3) green forage with soyabean oilmeal and pineapple as in (2). Mean daily weight gain during 85 days was 168.6, 182.0 and 177 g. For 5 calves of liveweight 270 kg fed on 2.5 kg daily of green forage and pineapple byproducts to appetite the mean daily weight gain over 190 days was 1031 g.
