For 28 days 48, 6-week-old weaned rabbits were fed on ad libitum pelleted diets
containing 50% fortified rice bran (FRB) and 50% forage, with centro (Centrosema
pubescens Benth) 0, 50 or 75% of total forage in treatments 2, 3 and 4, respectively. Average
daily weight gain of rabbits fed on 100% FRB (4.2 g/head daily) was lower (P < 0.01) than
for those fed on diets containing centro. There was no difference in daily weight gain
between treatments 2, 3 and 4 (19.9, 16.3 and 21.5 g/head daily, respectively). Average feed
intake was not different between groups but the feed conversion ratio of treatments 2, 3 and 4
(5.41, 6.78 and 4.87, respectively) were different from treatment 1 (25.43).
Centro-containing diets gave a good growth rate in tropical conditions.
