Journal-of-Applied-Rabbit-Research. 1987, 10: 1, 30-34; 32 ref. Angora rabbits in 4 groups were given diets of equal nitrogen value in which 60% of the total protein was provided by groundnut meal, mustard meal, linseed meal or cottonseed meal. There was a slight increase in body weight in all the groups. Wool production did not differ significantly between groups, although mustard and groundnut meals gave the highest and lowest values, respectively. There were no significant differences between groups in digestibilities of DM, organic matter, nitrogen, crude fibre, neutral detergent fibre or acid detergent fibre, but those of nitrogen-free extract were 80.2, 77.5, 77.8 and 72.3%, and of hemicellulose 73.3, 71.3, 69.5 and 58.3%. Daily dietary crude protein intake was 13.3, 12.3, 15.7 and 15.4 g/head; differences were significant. Although all the plant protein sources seemed to be used efficiently for wool production, mustard meal was considered most rewarding in India. This abstract relates to the following species:
