---------------------------------------------------------------
FAO Global Rinderpest Eradication Programme (GRE) was established as a coordination platform to promote global eradication of rinderpest and, verification of freedom in infected countries with 2010 as deadline.
Based on the absence of new outbreaks since 2001, and consistent epidemiological evidence, FAO is confident that global eradication has been achieved. An international statement regarding Global Rinderpest Freedom is expected to be made soon by FAO, OIE and partners.
Before any announcement is made, the view of those whose (member countries) have been in the forefront of the eradication need to be expressed. Your view (or statement) during this workshop will be consequently referred to the FAO Ministerial Council/Conference and OIE General Assembly.
Objectives of this workshop are to:
- Review the global rinderpest situation and plan for the global announcement of eradication;
- Assess CVOs statement for the world free of rinderpest;
- Identify modalities for virus sequestration;
