OPINION ON THE WELFARE IMPLICATIONS OF BREEDING AND BREEDING TECHNOLOGIES IN COMMERCIAL LIVESTOCK AGRICULTURE - November 2012
Scope: 1) To provide an overview of the animal welfare implications of selective breeding strategies and breeding technologies in commercial livestock agriculture. 2) Livestock sectors considered in this Opinion include dairy cattle, beef cattle, sheep, pigs, broiler (meat) chickens, laying hens, turkeys and salmon. Other livestock sectors may share some of the issues but are not covered in detail.
