| Project Description | This project aims at the rehabilitation of the Mongolian dairy sector from the negative impact of policy reform and from the extraordinary harsh winters over the last two years. The project will introduce improved processing technologies together with appropriate equipment which redirects the private processors more market-oriented and enables them to supply dairy products of improved quantity and quality. The reorientation of the Mongolian dairy chain towards a market-led approach will benefit for smallholder milk producers dairy farmers to boost milk production and increase rural incomes and food security; for dairy processors who will expand their production of niche products; and eventually for consumers who will have access to improved quantity and quality of milk and dairy products. Milk production and supply to the Capital of Ulaanbaatar will increase significantly through the reduction of post-harvest losses and improved processing. The required equipment for establishing milk collection points, rehabilitating the existing private milk processors and equipping breeding/animal husbandry support centre including artificial insemination (AI) technique will be provided by FAO together with the essential technical assistance for the effective use of the equipment provided. |
