AGNS Projects
AGNS implements national, regional and global projects for the management
and control of food safety and quality. Projects are funded through the FAO
Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP), by other donors or the country itself.
Projects focus on the needs of both the food industry and public sector institutions
with responsibilities for food safety, and deal with many aspects of food control,
industry food safety and quality programmes and broad stakeholder participation
and capacity building in the regulation of food safety and quality.
Through careful project design, in the context of a food chain approach
to food safety, AGNS seeks to ensure that project activities complement other
national development activities and that project impacts are sustainable
through the monitoring and evaluation of objectives and outputs.
AGNS is currently (March 2007) lead technical or operating unit for over
20 operationally active national or regional projects in over 30 countries,
with more in the pipeline. In addition AGNS is implementing food safety and
quality activities globally under:
- Norwegian funded programmes for Improved Food Safety and Food Quality
at the National Level, and Support to National Biosecurity Initiatives
and Policies Including Countries Facing High Risks of Outbreaks of Diseases
and Pests
- Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) funded programme for
Assistance to Food Safety and Food Quality
