The updated version of the GSFA Online, incorporating the outcome of the 31st Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, is now available on Codex website in English, French, Spanish and Chinese (new).

There is also a link on this page to the relevant IPCS website which provides the public with an opportunity to make comments on the draft documents for the FAO/WHO Project to update the Principles and Methods for the Risk Assessment of Chemicals in food. The deadline for comments is 15 September 2008.

Climate Change: Implications for Food Safety
FAO/AGNS, in collaboration with several food safety consultants, prepared a paper on the Implications of Climate Change for Food Safety for the FAO High-Level Conference on World Food Security: the Challenges of Climate Change and Bioenergy which was held at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy, from 3-5 June 2008. International Portal on Food Safety, Animal and Plant Health launches its new look website
The International Portal on Food Safety, Animal and Plant Health (IPFSAPH) is pleased to announce the launch of its new website, which has been extensively redesigned to incorporate new functionality and make it easier for users to search for official SPS Agreement related information. Although the website address remains the same (www.ipfsaph.org), additional functionality includes RSS newsfeeds on particular topics and a more intuitive and easier to use advanced search option. With over 35,000 records, new data sets recently incorporated into www.ipfsaph.org include WTO's SPS Information Management System (containing all WTO trade notifications and concerns) and IAEA's Clearance of Irradiated Foods Database. Food Safety Assessments of Low-level Presence of r-DNA Plant Material in Food available via www.ipfsaph.org
CAC 31 recently approved the 'Annex on Food Safety Assessment in Situations of Low-level Presence of Recombinant-DNA Plant Material in Food'. In order to make food safety assessments on r-DNA plants authorized in accordance with the Codex Plant Guideline more widely accessible FAO, in conjunction with OECD, has created a new data set under the International Portal on Food Safety, Animal and Plant Health. This publicly available data set is now available via http://tinyurl.com/5kap9t. Members of FAO, Codex member countries and other interested parties are reminded that nominations of contact point(s) regarding food safety assessments of recombinant-DNA plants are encouraged in order to facilitate the alerting of new information both to and from FAO/IPFSAPH on this topic.
