National Plans of Action for Food Security and Nutrition
A large number of member countries have developed and are implementing national plans of action on food security and nutrition following their commitments to this effect at the International Conference on Nutrition in 1992 and at the World Food Summit in 1996. These comprehensive documents constitute major policy orientations and define key strategies for meeting the goals of reducing hunger and malnutrition as a first step towards poverty alleviation. A number of background documents and subsequent guidelines were produced at the time of those major events, and they remain highly relevant to this day. The development and/or the updating of National Plans of Action as a way of re-defining priorities remains very much alive today.
