Dear all,
In response to Dr. Ahmad comment dated 7 November 2003, on the issue of recognition of experts. Until now, FAO and WHO work with experts in a voluntary manner. In most cases, this implies significant support from their institution in terms of time, resources and expertise. Normally, at the end of assignments FAO/WHO acknowledge the contribution made by the expert and in some cases like JEMRA the employer also receives a letter of thanks. Is this process enough to guarantee available expertise with increased requests to FAO/WHO for scientific advice and at the same time greater demands on individual experts from their own institutions? Is there a need to consider additional means of recognising experts input to the process. On this topic, Dr. Groth presented his views on "incentives" in his message dated 29 October 2003, are there are any other comments?
