What are your views on the recommendation from the Codex Evaluation to formalize JEMRA in the light of the legal issues and the consequences involved?

We think it would be convenient to give the JEMRA the same level and similar functional characteristics of the JECFA and the JMPR - especially, considering the appearance or reappearance of emerging ETAs. It should deal with its assessments quickly because of their negative impact on public health. Therefore, it should have the appropriate budget. It could even be considered the organization of extraordinary meetings in order to address issues that may need urgent management, as it has happened in other institutions.

Do you agree that harmonization of administrative arrangements is not the best way forward but better to ensure that key elements are applied equally across the board?

Harmonization of administrative arrangements may ensure the equality in the management. However, differences related to the issues or the products to be assessed must be taken into account.

Have recommendations from formally established bodies like JECFA and JMPR more impact in Codex and at the national level than those from ad hoc consultations?

JECFA and JMPR recommendations must have a wider impact on the Codex and at a national level since they are based on science, technology and research - the entrusted mission.
