Comments on Paper 2.a
This paper talks lot on Budgetary constraints. Well this is an issue to consider and promote budgetary support, if found necessary.
The paper talks of the administrative set up and selections for JEFCA, JMPR and ad hoc committees. I reserve my comments for later date except that I can say now is that there should be adequate representation from consumer organisation, NGOs, academicians and responsible writers on food safety.
I agree that framing the provision of scientific advice in one single administrative arrangement is not a desirable option. There should be a harmonisation of administrative arrangement of JEMRA and JECFA. A revamp process should be undertaken and attempts made to include representations from consumer organisations, NGOs, academicians and writers on food safety. The set up should be made democratic in functioning. Selection process should be rational. Then formalisation of the body undertaken in light of legal issues and the consequences involved, if any.
