Association of Food Marketing Agencies in Asia and the Pacific (AFMA)


AFMA is based in the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, Bangkok. Membership is drawn from government departments, parastatals and cooperative institutions that are involved in planning and policy formulation; management and regulatory functions; supporting functions such as grading, information, inspection; physical handling, including procurement, storing and distribution; and training and research in the field of food marketing and management. Private-sector food marketing companies are welcome as associate members. 

There are presently 27 members from 13 countries. The countries are: Bangladesh (1), China (1),. India (7), Indonesia (2), Malaysia (1), Myanmar (1), Nepal (2), Pakistan (4), Philippines (2), Rep. of Korea (2), Sri Lanka (2), Thailand (1), and Vietnam (1). 

AFMA operates under membership contributions and financial support from agencies like FAO. The members join AFMA on payment of an entry fee of US$ 500 and pay an annual membership fee of US$ 3,000. 

AFMA draws all of its members from the food grains and fruits and vegetables marketing sector. It has a regular programme of workshops and seminars and also supports other types of TCDC interchange. Reports of recent meetings are available with its Secretariat.
