-Extension Techniques

Now available in VCD Format!

In order to promote agricultural development, extension officers should be able to provide business and marketing advice. This new video "Horticultural Marketing - Extension Techniques" provides practical advice to an extension officer on how to provide such assistance. It covers the basic information needed on costs, production, distribution and identifying markets, as well as extension techniques for explaining the concept of marketing.

As with the first video in the series (Horticultural Marketing - a Training Video) this video is likely to be used primarily by agricultural colleges in developing countries, both in the training of future extension workers and in developing the skills of existing extensionists. It can also be used to introduce the topic of market research and marketing extension at University level and to train those who work in the horticultural industry, such as managers of retail and wholesale markets, farm managers, transporters and processors. NGOs working with farmers will also find it useful.

The video makes extensive use of computer graphics. It is divided into four sections and can be potentially used as the basis of five lessons; the first in which the entire film is shown and the other four in which the individual sections are reviewed and discussed in detail. The teacher should use FAO's Horticultural Marketing Manual (AGS Bulletin No. 76) for additional material and for examples of economic and financial calculations and for detailed case studies.

To order a copy of this video, (cost US$40.00) please contact FAO's Publications section, specifying PAL, SECAM or NTSC. The video is also available in French and Spanish.
