Regional expert meeting on Institutional Support for Inclusive Agribusiness and Agro-industries Development
6–7 November, Manila (Philippines)
The Rural Infrastructure and Agro-industries Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (AGS/FAO), in collaboration with the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), held a regional expert meeting on Institutional Support for Inclusive Agribusiness and Agro-industries Development from November 6th to 7th in Manila, Philippines. This is the third regional event of this nature, following a meeting in Chile in July for the Latin America region, and in Ghana in August 2012 for Africa.
The objective of the event was to exchange knowledge and share practical experiences on key topics that are currently at the top of the agenda for institutions providing support to the agribusiness sector: public-private partnerships for agribusiness development, contract farming for sustainable intensification and the changing governance of food systems. Within this context, the role and functions of Ministries of Agriculture in supporting agribusiness development was discussed and strategies to promote the inclusion of small and medium agro-based producers and enterprises identified. Global appraisals on these topics carried out by AGS/FAO served as the basis for discussion. Approximately 25 experts from international organizations, academia, public and private organizations from seven Asian countries participated in the event.
