New video on line! Food Security through Commercialization of Agriculture (FSCA) Programme

Please enjoy the new video related to the Side Event during the World Food Week titled Food Security through Commercialization of Agriculture (FSCA) Programme at the forefront of the new FAO Strategic Objective 4 on inclusive and efficient agricultural and food systems, held at FAO Headquarters, Rome, on 14 October 2013.

The video has been prepared by the Inter Press Service (IPS), which attended the Side Event, in collaboration with the Rural Infrastructure and Agro-Industries Division (AGS) and the Office for Partnerships, Advocacy and Capacity Development (OPC), which provided images from the field.
The FSCA Programme was designed in 2006 with the aim of transforming traditional agriculture into a competitive, modern and commercially vibrant sector in order to generate environmental, social and economic benefits to improve the livelihoods of farmers and their communities.

Addressing the main problems affecting developing countries’ agriculture and commercialization (such as heavy post-harvest losses, weak connection to national and international markets, insufficient water supply and lack of access to technology), the Programme rapidly showed its successes and appeared as an innovative development and cooperative strategy. A Side Event during the World Food Week was arranged in order to present and share these successes and make the Programme visible and replicable.

It is crucial to develop adequate policies for support agricultural development and to include smallholders in production and commercialization; there is a need for sharing experiences and this event has been a great opportunity for doing that.

Distributing and promoting this video is an important chance for sharing the FSCA experiences with most of the interested audience and to disseminate its strategy.
