Agricultural Market Information Services

Market information is crucial to enable farmers and traders to make informed decisions about what to grow, when to harvest, to which markets produce should be sent and whether or not to store it. FAO's Marketing Group is active in promoting efficient and sustainable market information services in member countries.

FAO has collaborated with the Developing Countries Farm Radio Network to produce a series of radio scripts and plays on the topics of market information and post-harvest handling. These can now be downloaded from the Network's web site.

Understanding and using market information is a Marketing Extension Guide. It can be ordered free of charge or downloaded in pdf format.

"Market Information Services-Theory and Practice" AGS Bulletin No. 125; US$7.00) can be downloaded in pdf or ordered from FAO's Publications Unit.

An MSAccess-based version of the FAO-AgriMarket software for Market Information Services is available on CD-Rom. Full details of the programme are provided and a demonstration can be downloaded.

A training workshop on Market Information Services in Central and Eastern European Countries was held from 14-17 May 2000 in Budapest.
