Feeding Minds Fighting Hunger

An educational initiative for children to help create a world Free from hunger and malnutrition

Feeding Minds, Fighting Hunger is a global education and advocacy initiative to introduce young people to the issues of hunger, malnutrition and food security. Developed by FAO, in collaboration with a broad coalition of UN agencies and other international and regional organizations, the initiative provides model lessons for teachers and an animated website and interactive forum for young people inside and outside the classroom.

The materials have been designed as a starting point for teachers around the world to prepare and encourage their students to become actively involved in helping create a world free from hunger and malnutrition. Teachers can adapt and refine the materials to meet their local needs and conditions. The lessons and teaching materials are available in Arabic, Chinese, English, Farsi, French, Greek, Bahasa Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Kiswahili on the Internet , on CD-ROM and in print form. Feeding Minds reaches out directly to youth through its "Youth Window" and "Right to Food: A Window on the World", which provide information, resources and activities for young people to use on their own.

The Feeding Minds materials currently include:

  • a set of lessons and educational materials for use by teachers
  • an interactive forum for teachers and students around the world
  • the "Youth Window" companion website for teenagers, providing additional information, resources and activities
  • the "Right to Food: A Window on the World" story book, resource and activity guide and animated website for young people and their teachers or leaders
