FAO Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in South-West Asia (SWAC)

The current Desert Locust situation

The Desert Locust Information Service (DLIS) at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy monitors ecological conditions, weather and the Desert Locust situation throughout the recession area from West Africa to India on daily basis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

DLIS will inform national locust centres directly when unusual rainfall occurs, where green vegetation or locusts may be present, and when there is a risk of an invasion.

DLIS analyzes the current situation in every country and forecasts the timing, location and scale of locust breeding and migration for each country.

A summary of the situation and forecast for each country are presented in a monthly bulletin issued at the beginning of very month by DLIS.

All relevant information is available on Locust Watch.
