The International Conference on Rural Finance Research: Moving Results into Policy and Practice is being sponsored and organized by FAO, the Ford Foundation, and IFAD.
FAO The mandate of The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, FAO, is to raise levels of nutrition, improve agricultural productivity, better the lives of rural populations and contribute to the growth of the world economy. Its activities comprise putting information within reach, sharing policy expertise, providing a meeting place for nations and bring knowledge to the field. The Rural Finance Group of FAO develops and supports the use of better banking practices, appropriate financial products and innovative financial technologies.
Ford Foundation The Ford Foundation is an independent non-profit grant-making organization. Its goals are to strengthen democratic values, reduce poverty and injustice, promote international cooperation and advance human achievement. Under its Asset Building and Community Development program, the Foundation supports organizations and institutions that help low-income people acquire, develop and maintain savings, investments, businesses, homes land and other assets through research, practical innovation, training, policy analysis and advocacy.
IFAD The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. Its mission is to enable the rural poor to overcome poverty. IFAD's activities are guided by the Strategic Framework for IFAD 2002-2006: Enabling the rural poor to overcome poverty. The framework's three strategic objectives are to strengthen the capacity of the rural poor and their organizations, improve equitable access to productive natural resources and technologies and increase access by the rural poor people to financial services and markets.
