Membership

 

The membership of the International Rice Commission is opened to all Member Nations and Associate Members of the FAO.  In order to become a Member of the Commission, the Country needs only to send the Instrument of Acceptance to the Director-General of FAO. On 4 January 1949, the Commission had 12 Members including France, Ecuador, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Italy, India, Thailand, Netherlands, Egypt, Myanmar, Mexico, and the Philippines in the order of the date of receipt of the Instrument of Acceptance. The membership of the Commission has grown steadily since 1949 and today the Commission has 62 member countries (see the map) and list below. In 2010, these countries accounted for 93% of global rice production (FAOSTAT).
