The Fifth Session of the Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture


The Fifth Session of the Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture will be held at FAO Headquarters in Rome from 27 to 29 April 2011. The opening meeting will begin at 10.00 hours on Wednesday 27 April 2011.
The Session is being convened under the Regular Programme of the Organization.

The Twelfth Session of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture agreed that the Working Group should meet prior to its next Regular Session and focus its work on reviewing the updated draft Global Plan of Action for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and to consider the updated Genebank Standards. The Commission requested the Working Group to review the vision paper on policy coherence and complementarity of the work of the Commission and the Governing Body of the International Treaty. It also requested the Working Group to review option papers on a number of areas including biotechnology, plant breeding, seed sector, and in situ conservation of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture.
