Tools & Guidelines

SCPI is based on a set of guiding principles that help to address the multiple dimensions of sustainability - the point of these guiding principles is not to set up an unattainable list of ideals, but rather to help to design a basis against which to assess the current status of cropping systems and to measure future changes in these systems. The Conceptual Framework for SCPI provides the context for developing tools that include guiding principles, checklists, indicators and case studies for use in developing policies, programme and projects related to sustainable intensification. The Conceptual Framework is intended to be flexible, to adapt to evolving situations and new scientific evidence and to incorporate valuable experiences from traditional knowledge; this framework does not represent a final document and will continuously be updated in the light of new knowledge and experience. Tools for environmental sustainability in sustainable crop production intensification provide a checklist for rapid and detailed impact assessments. The website of the different SCPI practices that fit within the ecosystem approach, as well as information about what these practices are and how to do these practices, including case studies, are provided in the table below.
