FAO conducted a West African seed policy workshop from 5 to 6 May 2011 at Africa Rice in Benin for 12 countries as well as ECOWAS, UEMOA, AGRA, CORAF, AFSTA, African Seed Network and donors such as AFDB and IFAD. The results of the workshop are the following :
- West African decision maker emphasized the importance of seed policy to implement strategic actions to develop their seed sector
- Countries exchanged experience on the main seed policy issues and on lessons learnt during the process of formulation and implementation
- FAO guidance on seed policy was improved, taking into account the particularities of West Africa
- National plans for the improvement of seed policies were discussed and countries requested the assistance of developing partners to improve and implement seed policies.
