Forging innovative partnerships for better food security and nutrition governance - The four-year programme (2012-2015) is funded by the European Union (EU) and FAO. It collaborates closely with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Food Programme (WFP), several United Nations (UN) agencies and regional and national partners.

La recherche facilitant la collaboration entre paysans etchercheurs et l’apprentissage par l’expérience peut fournir l’élément manquant pour adapter les recommandations de gestion des cultures aux besoins des paysans. Nous avons testé différents systèmes de gestion de la culture de riz irriguée pendant trois saisons d’expérimentation de recherche adaptative dans trois sites de la Moyenne Vallée du Fleuve Sénégal. Nos objectifs étaient d’évaluer la viabilité agronomique et socioéconomique des Pratiques de Gestion Recommandées (PGR) par rapport au Système de Riziculture Intensive (SRI) et des Pratiques Paysannes (PP).

Le Partenariat UE-Afrique sur le coton constitue une des réponses à la baisse tendancielle historique des prix du coton observée au début du 21ème siècle et aux inquiétudes concernant les impacts de la pauvreté sur les producteurs de coton et les filières cotonnières en Afrique.

Food insecurity is caused by many factors. Among these is the fact that women and youth lack the resources and opportunities they need to make the most of their time and labour. Women account for a great proportion of the agricultural labour force, produce the majority of food grown, and perform most of the unpaid care work in rural areas; yet, they do not enjoy equality with men when it comes to assets, land, food and nutrition, work opportunities, education and participation in decision-making.

The objectives of this Code are to establish voluntary standards of conduct for all public and private entities engaged in or associated with the management of pesticides, particularly where there is inadequate or no national legislation to regulate pesticides.

Gender equality is central to FAO’s mandate to achieve food security for all by raising levels of nutrition, improving agricultural productivity and natural resource management, and improving the lives of rural populations. FAO can achieve its goals only if it simultaneously works towards gender equality and supports women’s diverse roles in agriculture and rural development. Gender equality is not only an essential means by which FAO can achieve its mandate, it is also a basic human right.

Inclusive, evidence-based decision-making for improving the global governance of food security - Food security and nutrition are at the heart of stable and peaceful societies. In a progressively more globalised system, there is increasing recognition that food security and nutrition issues cut across national borders, making cooperation necessary.

The Improved Global Governance for Hunger Reduction programme seeks to concretely improve the way in which the global community works together to eradicate hunger and malnutrition.

In crisis situations, RIMA provides the evidence that makes it possible to assist people based on what they truly need most.

 

This curriculum emphasizes the strategy of integrating fish into rice production systems in Guyana and Suriname, through Integrated Pest Management, under the Farmers Field School participatory approach.

Cette fiche a pour objectif de: promouvoir l'utilisation de la bonne pratique des clubs d'écoute Dimitra; stimuler la mobilisation et la participation des communautés rurales par la communication sociale et l'accès à l'information, pour qu'elles sortent de leur isolement et trouvent ensemble des moyens d'action; et faciliter la communication, l'action et la gouvernance communautaire en milieu rural pour permettre l'autonomisation économique et sociale sensible au genre des populations ainsi que l'amélioration de leur situation alimentaire et de leurs conditions de vie en général.
