First Workshop on the Agricultural Ontology Service (AOS) Project
FAO Headquarters, Rome, Italy
14-15 November 2001

WORKSHOP PAPERS

High on the list among the AGRIS/CARIS information management projects sits the proposal for an ontology service. The problems related to finding information on similar, specialized subjects are ongoing and have increased over time, in direct proportion to the growth of the Internet itself. The tools are all there; what is needed is to put them to the service of a modern mechanism – the Internet, which has the potential to host an unlimited and truly efficient world agricultural resources system. The Ontology Service proposes to lead the way.

The first Agricultural Ontology Workshop was held in FAO from November 14 to 15, 2001. An open invitation was sent to interested potential partners, and the agenda and presentations were published as and when they arrived.
