You can not have good nutrition without protecting the health of soils

By 2050, the world could experience a fragility in their soils so alarming that no seed will have enough strength to grow. The result, then, will be shortages and famine in countries even believed to have infallible means of production.

The above fact which emerges from the latest report of the United Nations Food and Agriculture 2018 (FAO), is a clear reflection that if no changes are made, in 30 years the planet would be unable to produce foods that require the population. Costa Rica is no exception.

Do the big culprits? A number of factors, in which climate change and industrialized agriculture excel.

"The technologies developed for agriculture and animal husbandry in recent years have achieved a model of high productivity per unit area and apparently very profitable. As it did? Based on a high use of energy, pesticides, fertilizers and improved high - yielding varieties. The consequences of this idea are obvious. There is a crisis in the current model of agriculture that is environmentally unsustainable , "said Santiago Sarandón, president of the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology and professor at the National University of La Plata, Argentina.
