Just days after the Jamaica Public Service announced that electricity bills will be going up this month, the National Water Commission has hinted that there could also be an increase in its bills.
Corporate Public Relations Manager at the NWC, Charles Buchanan says the increase in electricity cost will have a significant impact on its operations, resulting in added costs to consumers.
Buchanan says only a portion of the increase in electricity is captured by the NWC’s Price Adjustment Mechanism.
He says the commission is unable to absorb all the costs and so consumers could see higher water bills.
Buchanan says electricity accounts for about 30 per cent of the NWC’s operational costs.
