La producción agrícola jamaicana del primer trimeste de 2011 la mayor de los últimos 12 años
Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Daryl Vaz, advised journalists at the post cabinet press briefing on June 22 that the Quarterly Report on Crop Production for January to March 2011 has shown crop yields to be at their highest level since 1999.
Cabinet noted that even with the challenges faced by the agricultural sector in 2010, such as drought and a tropical storm, the sector recorded an increase of 24.4 % to achieve total production levels of 147,378 tonnes. This is the highest quarterly production since the first quarter of 1999 when 159,118 tonnes were produced. The sector grew by approximately 14% during the period under review.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries also received the permission of Cabinet to register a trademark and design for its slogan: "Grow What We Eat, Eat What We Grow".
